Description:  An Alaska Railroad relay crew turns and forwards the "State Fair Train" from Anchorage Yard to the Anchorage Depot. In just a short time the train will make its first of three days worth of trips to the state fairgrounds at Palmer. The conductor of a another job working the Port of Alaska waves to the crew as they roll over the switches he lined up for them.

Title:  The State Fair at Palmer
Description:  The real star from the 1985 action movie "Runaway Train" had an easy assignment during the week of my trip to Alaska of shuttling passengers to and from downtown Anchorage to the State Fairgrounds in Palmer. Shortly after arriving from a northbound deadhead run the crew prepares the train to turn back south for its last trip of the night.

Description:  One of NJ Transit's four GP40-2s rumbles under the skylit sheds at Newark Penn Station on Track A. The 49-year old work horse was added to the lead of Train #5416 at Raritan Yard after a mechanical failure rendered the cab car inoperable. The mixed trainset is an odd one these days as much more care has gone into keeping Comet Vs all together out of Hoboken with Comet IIM and Comet IV coaches being used primarily on the Newark division.

Description:  As NJ Transit struggles to comply with the federally mandated Positive Train Control requirements many cab cars have become unavailable as they are retrofitted with the new PTC systems. In order to maintain service locomotives have been acting as "cab cars" on the east ends of train all across the system. Sometimes those engines used are those normally reserved for non-revenue work trains such as seen here. Eastbound Train #1204 is seen here just after crossing the Hackensack River at Upper Hack drawbridge and was lead by one of four GP40-2s on the NJ Transit roster. These engines are usually assigned as work and protect power to outlying terminals such as Dover, Long Branch and Morrisville and have rarely been used to power scheduled revenue passenger trains.
